You find that you have a free weekend, but sometimes you just can’t seem to find something quaint to enjoy. Today I hope to narrow it down for anyone who’s still on the fence. Whether you like planning or just seeing what’s out there, there are certainly great places for day trips in Ohio.
Day Trips in Toledo, Ohio
Toledo is a city with many simple, enjoyable things all in one. If you like animals, their Zoo is really good. The imagination station is fun for the whole family, and really sparks wonder and joy in kid’s eyes. The Franklin Park Mall is a beautiful mall with many places to go if you’re looking to go shopping. If you enjoy a day at the shore, the north east edge of town is right at the lake. The selection of food is nothing to scoff at either. Everything from P.F. Chang’s to Texas Roadhouse is in Toledo.
The Toledo Zoo is the day trip I have taken most often when going to Toledo. There are so many renovations and changes that it can be hard to remember. A couple that stick out to me are the new aquarium and the museum of science. The Imagination Station is quite a place to go. I haven’t been there since I was a kid, yet it’s still one of the coolest places I’ve been to. Highly recommend for any families, this place is a wonderland. If you’re looking for a good place to spend a day shopping, consider The Franklin Park Mall. It is very well maintained, they have an amazing food court, and your options are not limited at all. I love getting some sushi and wandering around, viewing the stores.
Day Trips in Canton, Ohio
Having visited south east Ohio many times to see family has brought me to Canton multiple times. This city south of Akron and Cleveland has some marvelous hilled terrain. It also has a history of excellent football programs that develop star players consistently. There are many things you can do when you come here for a day trip in Ohio. To the west of Canton there is a place called Clay’s Resort, Jellystone Park. It is Yogi-bear chain theme park, with lots of water-based attractions and camping activities. This resort could most certainly be an excellent choice for any family’s day trips in Ohio
If you are big on football, Canton is a perfect place for you to visit. They have a deep rooted history with the sport, and produce many all star players. They also have the privilege of being hosts to the pro football hall of fame museum. Surrounded by the hall of fame village, this features a great many historical moments of American football. There are also many outdoor activities including parks, camping, garden, and canoeing. They also have an excellent vineyard and subsequent wine tasting. No matter what kind of visit it is, Canton can certainly make it a memorable one.

Hocking Hills State Park
Hocking Hills is a nice little place if you’re not quite feeling like a hike, but a little walk. There are some super cool rock formations to see, and awesome waterfalls. It is a beautiful place to experience a wonderful piece of nature. It is also nice if you want to go camping, as they have many sites. I have not gone camping at hocking hills directly, but the trail is very nice. I would imagine that the camping experience is very similar to those who enjoy camping. If you are not much of a camper, they do have lodgings available as well. These are higher in price and more limited in number though. You can certainly find whatever kind of experience of nature you enjoy here.
The main trail at Hocking Hills was quite a nice trail with many natural rock features. Overhangs, small caves, steep cliffs, low lakes, and excellent waterfalls are what you can expect from such a venture. I still adore such sights, as they hold a special place in my heart. It does the spirit wonders to see such defined places of natural beauty. Going to Hocking Hills will certainly bring joy to any short day trips in Ohio.
Lake Erie
Lake Erie is an aged and storied body of water. It is like an ocean without any of the negatives. Lake Erie is a place that unites generations and sees them fall. It is ever changing, yet always the same, a lake of great size and depth. One of the five great lakes as they are known, this lake is a sight to behold. For many living in Ohio, this is the first they will see water with no end. Enjoying one of your day trips in Ohio at lake Erie is one decision you won’t regret. The beaches of this lake are an excellent place to spend the day with those you love.
Visiting Lake Erie from any part of it’s shores is bound to be a universal experience. The lake shares the memories of many which bring joy to those who hold them. The lake is such a staple of the beautiful nature in Ohio. You’ll see seagulls flying above and around, as they search for food. There are fishermen competing for the best catch of the day. Don’t forget about the boats and subsequent marinas. The sailboats are especially magnificent, as they are beautiful and can be seen for many long miles.
